Worldwide, Baker McKenzie has elected 89 new partners and with the addition of 42 new lateral partners joining in the year ending 30 June 2023, the Firm has added 131 partners globally.
Partnership expansion in Switzerland
Baker McKenzie Switzerland has appointed five new partners as of 1 July 2023. An overview of the five new partners shows the wide range of expertise and competence associated with these promotions:
Susanne Liebel-Kotz has more than 10 years’ experience in broad international tax planning and M&A. Susanne’s work is focused on international tax planning and tax advice in connection with M&A transactions and corporate restructurings, including private equity, venture capital and capital markets transactions. She also has a strong focus on real estate taxation and VAT and will thus further strengthen our Tax Practice in Switzerland.
Yves Mauchle’s practice focuses on debt and equity capital markets, financial services regulation and digital transformation. He regularly represents issuers and underwriters on capital market transactions such as initial public offerings, issuances of global depositary receipts, capital increases and bond issuances. Furthermore, Yves represents financial intermediaries on regulatory matters and advises on the particular challenges posed by fintech business models, including applications of distributed ledger technology.
Caleb Sainsbury is a partner within the Investigations, Compliance & Ethics and Tax groups of Baker McKenzie Switzerland. Caleb assists clients embroiled in high-stakes internal investigations and tax disputes. Caleb’s expertise lies in his ability to guide his clients as they identify root cause issues and respond to complex regulatory and enforcement body demands. In particular, Caleb is known for providing practical solutions to complex challenges stretching across multiple jurisdictions.
Roger Thomi is partner and co-head of the Baker McKenzie Antitrust & Competition Practice Group in Switzerland. Roger specializes in antitrust and competition law, commercial law (in particular distribution, franchising and joint ventures) and regulatory matters. Roger advises Swiss and international clients on all aspects of Swiss and European antitrust and competition law.
With Matthias Trautmann, the Firm promotes a corporate specialist to the partnership. Matthias has extensive experience advising Swiss and multinational clients on domestic and cross-border M&A, private equity transactions and corporate reorganizations.

Partnership expansion worldwide
Leading global law firm Baker McKenzie announced the promotion of 89 colleagues to partner effective 1 July 2023, except for those based in North America, whose new role took effect on 1 January 2023. With the addition of 42 new lateral partners joining the Firm in the year ending 30 June 2023, the Firm has added 131 partners globally, an increase of 12% from the previous year.
The 89 homegrown partner promotions are across 41 locations. A total of 46% of promotions this year are women, up from 37% in the last financial year, demonstrating the Firm’s ongoing progress in building a more gender equitable workplace.
