Swedish fashion brand Asket is introducing its new ‘Impact Receipt’ designed to mitigate consumption by comprehensively assessing the environmental effects of each purchase. This novel ‘Impact Receipt’ offers consumers an itemised breakdown of CO2e emissions, water usage, and energy expenditure associated with each garment acquisition, in addition to the ecological effects linked to packaging and shipping selections.
This initiative aims to foster transparency concerning the environmental cost and influence of Asket’s clothing, enabling customers to appreciate the ecological consequences of their purchasing choices and monitor their consumption-based footprint.
Asket has entered into a partnership with Vaayu Tech to conduct and compute comprehensive lifecycle impact assessments, with the ‘Impact Receipt’ based on the brand’s garment traceability. This approach encompasses all stages of garment creation, from farming and yarn spinning to fabric weaving, dyeing, and construction, as well as the associated transportation processes.
August Bard Bringéus, co-founder of Asket, said that the fashion industry has only disclosed the financial price consumers pay for a garment, resulting in a disconnection between our shopping behaviors and the environmental repercussions. He underscores the necessity of ascribing a value to the Earth’s resources and understanding the genuine expenses of people’s choices, ultimately encouraging restraint in the consumption to which they feel entitled.
Founded in 2015 by August Bard-Bringéus and Jakob Dworsky, Asket’s ethos centers around abolishing seasonal collections that foster rapid consumption. The inaugural version of the impact receipt was initially unveiled in 2020, though it was exclusively available for only a select range of best-selling apparel items.
