“Maratha reservation protestors are on the roads. Houses of MLAs are being torched. Law and order have collapsed in the state. There should be no politics on this issue. Political parties in Maharashtra should come together for a discussion on this issue. The CM has called an all-party meeting in which some 20-25 random people have been called, but Shiv Sena MPs or MLAs have not been called for his meeting. A resolution should be found on the Maratha reservation issue.”

MG Motor India retail sales up 17 pc at 5,108 units in Oct
MG Motor India on Wednesday reported a 17 per cent increase in retail sales at 5,108 units in October 2023, as compared to the same month last year. Sales of EVs continue to contribute around 25 per cent of the total sales of the company, MG Motor said in a statement. The carmaker said, its centenary and festive sales were encouraging on the back of customer offers across models.

MTNL to issue 10-yr bonds next week
Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) plans to raise around 31.26 billion rupees ($375.44 million) through the sale of government-guaranteed bonds maturing in 10 years in November, three merchant bankers said on Wednesday. The state-run telecommunications firm is likely to invite bids for the issue on Nov. 6, they said.

After tomatoes, onion prices hit the sky in UP
After tomatoes, it is now onions that are burning a hole in the pockets of consumers in the festive season. The prices of onions in the retail market have doubled in the past one week, going from Rs 30-35 per kg to Rs 60-80 per kg. This is the second time in the last four months that onion prices are spiralling after August, when the staple had crossed Rs 100 mark. It has further put strain on the kitchen budget following the steep hike in tomato prices just a few months ago.

Indian student stabbed at public gym in US
A 24-year-old Indian student has been stabbed in the US state of Indiana and is said to be in a critical condition, according to a media report. Varun was stabbed with a knife into the temple by the assailant Jordan Andrad, 24, at a public gym in the Valparaiso city of Indiana on Sunday morning for reasons that the authorities are still investigating, reported NWIU Times. Following the incident, the attacker was arrested and is facing charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and attempted murder.

Indians splurge big on festive season sales, buoying economy
India’s festive season spending is booming as consumers splurge on cars, smartphones and TVs, buoying growth in one of the world’s fastest-expanding economies. Sales at online platforms like Amazon.com Inc., and Walmart Inc.-owned Flipkart was up by almost a fifth in the first week of the festive sales from a year ago. Digital transactions recorded by Unified Payments Interface surged about 40% in October from a year earlier.

UP: Superfast Express derails at Prayagraj; no casualties reported
The Suheldev Superfast Express going from Ghazipur City to Anand Vihar derailed at the Prayagraj outer area in Uttar Pradesh, a railway statement said late Tuesday evening. Amit Malviya, Public Relations Officer, National Capital Region, said there were no casualties in the mishap, quoting railway officials. “Restoration work is underway,” the official added.
