Wrapping up Small Business Week on a celebratory note, the Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce Gala Awards were held on Oct. 20 at the Lacombe Memorial Centre.

This year’s sponsors included Lacombe Ford (title sponsor), the City of Lacombe (gold sponsor), Real Country 95.5 Red Deer (Entertainment sponsor), and Lacombe A&W (photo booth).

It also marked the first year that awards for Business of the Year were given out to the communities of Eckville, Clive, and Bentley.

“This summer, I had the tremendous opportunity to go around to most of the businesses within the Lacombe-Ponoka constituency,” said Jennifer Johnson, MLA for Lacombe-Ponoka.

“I saw first-hand the diversity that each business holds whether small, medium or large — you are all making a difference,” she said.

“The strength of a community is within its people, and there are some of the best ones right here in this room tonight.

“I want to thank you for what you do, and send all of my congratulations to all of the nominees and to our winners this evening.”

Edmonton-based comedian Howie Millier provided plenty of entertainment during the course of the evening, which also saw several awards handed down beginning with Young Entrepreneur of the Year (sponsored by Strand 360) which was won by Jonathan Luscombe of the Lacombe Pride Society.
