Insolvency documents for the recently-closed retail chain show that Draper Tools Ltd, in Chandler’s Ford, is owed £157,872 by the now defunct company and two other business are also out of pocket.
This comes as saddened shoppers watched Wilko’s Southampton store close its doors for the last time on Sunday.
This was one of the last 41 stores that the high street retailer had managed to cling on to in its bid to find a rescue deal and keep the business afloat.
Not only has the closure of Wilko lead to more than 12,000 employees being made redundant, but it has also raised questions over the unpaid bills the company owes.
The chain currently owes £166,362 in total to local businesses in the Southampton area:
Rokill Ltd, in Ringwood, is owed £240
Toor Estates, in Eastleigh, is owed £8,250
Draper Tools Ltd, in Chandler’s Ford, is owed £157,872
In regards to this bill, a spokesperson for Draper Tools said: “Everyone at Draper Tools was saddened to hear about the closure of one of our long term trading partners Wilko.
“All financial information concerning any of our customers and suppliers is confidential and we are unable to comment on any individual cases at this time.
“Our thoughts go out to all of the Wilko team members affected by this sad news.”
The well-known brand was established by the Wilkinson family in the 1930s, the chain sold homeware and garden furniture at discounted prices.
Wilko used to operate more than 400 stores across the country.
Many similar stores – such as Woolworths, that closed in 2008 – have also struggled to cope with the competition of online shopping.
A number of similar discount retailers have bought many of the ex-Wilko sites including Poundland, Home Bargains and The Range.
Rokill Ltd and Toor Estates were approached for comment.
