Alarm about prolonged closure of France-Italy rail link – English

[ad_1]

(ANSA) – ROME, OCT 3 – The Turin Chamber of Commerce and the
AlpMed association on Tuesday sounded the alarm about the
economic impact of the prolonged closure of the rail line
between Chambéry and Turin, the main railway link between France
and Italy.

Traffic on the line was halted on August 27 due to landslide in
the French province of Maurienne.

The French authorities initially said the line would be
operational again in November but last week they announced that
it would stay closed until June 2024.

“It is necessary to make all the efforts needed for an
acceleration in the work to get the line running against and
resolve a problem that is not limited to the French region
involved, but has a major impact on long-haul traffic between
the countries,” said Dario Gallina, president of the Turin
Chamber of Commerce and the AlpMed association. (ANSA).
