UBS has promoted one of its top investment bankers in France to lead its alternative capital group in the country as the Swiss bank continues to shake up the senior ranks of its dealmaking team.
Nicolas Paquet has taken on the role of head of the alternative capital group for France and Belgium, according to an internal memo seen by Financial News. He will focus on private equity firms in France as well as the French offices of international sponsors clients.
Paquet, the former head of M&A in France at Barclays, joined UBS in 2019 as part of a broader expansion in the country.

UBS is in the midst of integrating Credit Suisse into its business after the $3.25bn takeover pushed through at the behest of the Swiss government in March.
Within its European investment bank, just three senior Credit Suisse dealmakers were named in a 29-strong leadership team across products and sectors. Bruno Hallak was named head of France, while Jonathan Grundy now heads up the UK investment bank alongside David James. Simon Taurins moved from Credit Suisse to become UBS’s head of Emea consumer and retail.
Credit Suisse’s Paris-based co-head of financial institutions group, Julien Lamm, also made the switch to UBS later.
London-based Simona Maellare remains co-head of UBS’s alternative capital group globally, while Michael Abraham is Emea head of financial sponsors.
