Wake Up Call: Linklaters Cuts 30 in China Market During Downturn

  • Linklaters is reducing its workforce by about 30 in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong because of a “prolonged downturn” in the China market. Linklaters in China has one of the largest legal teams among international firms, with a current headcount of 220, including 38 partners and 16 counsel. (The Global Legal Post)
  • Kirkland & Ellis and Latham & Watkins top The American Lawyer’s annual ranking of law firms by revenue. Three firms that operate in a Swiss verein structure—DLA Piper, Baker McKenzie and Dentons, rank third, fourth and fifth. (Law.com)
  • James R. Lisa, a New Jersey attorney hired to help repatriate millions of dollars from offshore bank accounts, pleaded guilty to charges including wire fraud, identity theft and failing to file a tax return. He admitted defrauding his clients of more than $2 million dollars, according to US Attorney Philip R. Sellinger. (US Attorney’s Office)

  • Laura Ackermann has joined Gordon & Rees as partner with the employment law, commercial litigation, and the professional liability practice groups in the Albuquerque, N.M., and Phoenix,, Ariz., offices. She will serve as co-managing partner of the Albuquerque office.
  • J. Powell Carman and C. Brendan Johnson have joined Polsinelli PC as shareholders with the business department in St. Louis, Mo.
  • Scott Bowers has joined Baker Donelson as a shareholder with the corporate group in Raleigh/Research Triangle, N.C.
  • Sarah Hewitt has joined Fox Rothschild as a partner in the corporate department in New York. She was previously a partner at Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis.
  • Jonathan W. Thomas has joined Kilpatrick Townsend as a partner with the trademark and copyright team and the advertising and marketing group in New York. He was previously a partner at Mayer Brown.
  • Seyfarth Shaw has launched a new office in Dallas, Texas with partners Amy Simpson and Tricia Macaluso. They join from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner.
  • Hans Hertell has joined Hogan Lovells as a commercial litigation and intellectual property partner in the Miami office. He rejoins from Pryor Cashman.
  • John Eliason has joined Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe as part of the energy and infrastructure team in Washington, D.C.
  • Raghav Krishnapriyan joins Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe as part of the intellectual property litigation practice in San Francisco.
