Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po will lead a delegation to Europe and introduce the city’s advantages and business opportunities to European companies.

The trip – covering France, the UK, and Germany – will last over ten days. The financial chief will stay in Paris from September 17 to 19 and attend a mega promotion campaign organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).

A delegation with more than 130 representatives from chambers of commerce, public organizations, investors, startup entrepreneurs, and professional service providers will join the campaign, marking the largest Hong Kong delegation to Europe since the pandemic.

He will then visit London from September 20 to 23, where he will attend the HKTDC’s Hong Kong Dinner as well as a luncheon hosted by the Hong Kong Association.

Chan will meet with financial and business communities in Germany when he stays in Berlin and Frankfurt from September 24 to 26.

During his Europe business trip, he will join roundtable discussions and meetings with chambers of commerce. He will visit strategic enterprises engaging in healthcare, fintech, artificial intelligence, the arts, and creative industry institutions.

Speaking about his visit, Chan said the city’s exchanges with Europe had been disrupted due to the Covid-19 pandemic, while there have been misconceptions and misunderstandings about Hong Kong.

“We will make good use of the opportunity of this trip to brief the political and business communities in Europe about the latest situation and developments of Hong Kong…as well as the unique role and status of Hong Kong’s connectivity to the Mainland, Asia and Europe,” he said.

He added that as an international financial center and IT hub in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), Hong Kong is the preferred gateway and a high-quality service platform for European companies to explore business opportunities in the GBA and the mainland.

Chan will return to Hong Kong from Frankfurt on September 27.
