KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 22 police reports have been lodged against the Save Malaysia rally, scheduled to be held in the city today, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
The Inspector-General of Police said the reports were made by various people including business owners, the public and NGOs.
“They expressed their displeasure over the rally as it can disrupt business and public activities,” he said when contacted.
He pointed out that the organisers had not complied with Section 10 of the Peaceful Assembly Act in submitting a notice to the police.
“To save Malaysia, this is not the way. All parties should respect Malaysia Day.
“Our safety is secured. In fact, such protests might cause disruption to public activities,” he added.
The IGP also called on the public not to join the rally.
“We are receiving information that people from outside KL will be joining the protest. I advise them not to waste their time in doing so,” he said.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said sufficient personnel will be deployed today to facilitate and ensure public order.
“We are ready for any eventuality. We are not planning to close any roads,” he said.
Asked on the possibility of the protestors marching, Comm Allaudeen said the police will take necessary action if and when it occurs.
“We feel that everyone should play their part in ensuring safety for all.
“This is not the first protest in KL, thus we hope all will abide by the laws,” he said.
Save Malaysia rally secretariat Hilman Idham said the rally, scheduled at Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru, will still be held for participants to show love for country in combating corruption.
“I urge all those who love integrity and hate corruption to come down wearing a white shirt and bring a Malaysia flag to show their love for the country.
“We will make three demands to the government including to prosecute Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi again,” he said.
In another development, the Red Shirts movement has decided not to hold its own rally today, said its leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos.
He said the decision was made as the Perikatan Nasional Youth planned to organise the Save Malaysia rally at Kampung Baru.
However, Jamal said he and the rest of the Red Shirts will monitor the Save Malaysia rally.
“Let them gather at Kampung Baru. They can also stay for two nights and even lie down on the street if they want to,” he said.
