Leverage 5G technology to enhance economy, education, govt urged

MTN Nigeria has advised the government to leverage 5G technology for improved economy and education in this 20th-century digital world.

The mobile network operator (MNO) has also struck a 5G2B tripartite partnership with Huawei and Baze University to deploy the technology in unlocking unprecedented opportunities for educational institutions and businesses nationwide.

Speaking yesterday at the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise the deal in Abuja, Chief Enterprise Business Officer, MTN Nigeria, Lynda Saint-Nwafor, observed that 5G represents the next frontier in technology, describing it as a game-changer that promises to revolutionise industries, enhance education and fuel innovation.

She said in an age, marked by rapid technological advancements, connectivity is the lifeblood of progress, adding that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life.

Saint-Nwafor clarified that the partnership symbolises shared desire to harness the power of 5G to turn around educational institutions and businesses across the federation.

Huawei, the MTN official added, would bring onboard its expertise and legacy of driving digital transformation.

On his part, Key Account Director, Huawei Technology Nigeria Limited, Joey Wu, noted that 5G technology is not just about faster Internet speed, but about unlocking opportunities, fostering innovation, connecting people and ideas like never before.

He submitted that the event marks a historic moment, as it is Nigeria’s first-ever 5G2B initiative, especially in the education sector.

In her remarks, Vice Chancellor of Baze University, Prof. Kathleen Ebelechukwu Okafor, acknowledged that the deployment of 5G in teaching and learning would enhance service delivery, research and teaching.
