UK manufacturing sector climbs to eighth in world rankings – Make UK analysis
The UK’s manufacturing sector has climbed one place to eighth in the world rankings, overtaking France in the process according to analysis of the latest official data published by Make UK today.
The figures are contained in the latest annual ‘Manufacturing – The Facts’ which contains a wide variety of data about the contribution of manufacturing to the economy including exports, sectoral breakdown, how the UK compares to other nations and salary levels. Find out more at The Manufacturer
A green revolution begins at Portsmouth’s port as a £19.8m grant is secured
Portsmouth International Port has been awarded £19.8m from the Zero Emissions Vessels and Infrastructure competition (ZEVI), funded by UK Government and delivered in partnership with Innovate UK. The grant will allow them to embark on a groundbreaking decarbonisation project with Brittany Ferries, alongside the University of Portsmouth, MSE International, B4T, IOTICS and Swanbarton. Turbine manufacturing facility mooted for far north as MeyGen wins fresh contracts
A world-leading tidal energy firm operating in the Pentland Firth will develop the most powerful tidal turbines ever built after securing a guaranteed price for its power.
MeyGen will commission a series of 3MW turbines as it looks to expand its test site – currently operating at 6MW – to add a further 50MW by March 31, 2028. Find out more at The Northern Times
Technology Innovation Partnership for Net Zero Aviation in the South West launched
A Technology Innovation Partnership for Net Zero Aviation in the South West has been launched.
Focused on delivering transformational innovation to advance net zero flight, the founding partners are the National Composites Centre (NCC), advanced propulsion R&I centre IAAPS, and the Universities of Bristol and Bath. Great British Sewing Bee judge’s bid to restart Welsh underwear making
Patrick Grant, best known for being a judge on the BBC’s The Great British Sewing Bee, has launched a campaign to reignite underwear manufacturing in the area.
Welsh stars, including singer and radio presenter Wynne Evans and comedian Kiri Pritchard-McLean, have joined Patrick to be photographed in their pants for the Hello Boyos! campaign, a nod to Wonderbra’s Hello Boys campaign from 1994. Find out more at BBC News

Bury St Edmunds: British Sugar plans new office building
British Sugar has proposed demolishing an existing office building and constructing a new two-storey unit in its place at the firm’s Bury St Edmunds factory.
Planning documents submitted to West Suffolk Council in late August have revealed the manufacturer, which has been producing sugar in Bury since 1924, is seeking a larger front-of-house office building. Find out more at East Anglian Daily Times
Work dries up for South West firms amid rising interest rates and input costs
South West businesses have seen the steepest drop in new work since last November amid worsening trading conditions, according to a new NatWest report.
The bank said its South West PMI Business Activity Index – a seasonally adjusted index that measures the month-on-month change in the combined output of the region’s manufacturing and service sectors – saw a third consecutive month of decline in August. Find out more at Business Live
SNP minister leads trade mission to Denmark to boost Scottish renewable energy sector
Scotland’s energy minister Gillian Martin will this week lead a trade delegation to Denmark, the Scottish Government has announced.
Ms Martin will be in Copenhagen to tout the country’s renewable sector in meetings with the Danish Parliament’s Climate, Energy and Supply Committee, the country’s energy agency and North Sea wind turbine manufacturer Esbjerg Port. Find out more at Yahoo! News
