“At first, getting going, we did a bit of whatever. We did concrete finishing, finishing decks, renovations, all that sort of thing. In that last couple of years, we have focused into that niche of post-frame buildings, doing shops, farm buildings and storage buildings,” Farrow said. “It feels good to get back to our roots.”
The company culture includes customer-focused, 10-year warranties, community involvement, family oriented, training programs and being on the look-out for improvements. In a competitive labour market, Farrow has thrived.
“That unique approach we have is that we do a four/12 shift, but it rotates so that every second weekend, they get four days off, so essentially getting a four-day weekend, twice a month,” Farrow added. “The reason we did that was because, if you live here, we think that you need time to enjoy what the Okanagan has to offer.”
Farrow said the schedule has helped with attraction, retention and with people enjoying the job more because they know they have that four-day weekend coming up, so they can kickback and relax and come to work refreshed and ready to go again.
As important to the company as their employees is connecting in the community at local community and chamber of commerce events.
“It has been a good response. We have definitely put a lot of work into marketing. People are starting to realize now what we do,” Farrow stated. “At first it was kind of vague with all the different things we were doing, but now that we are focused in on post-frame buildings, farm buildings, shops and storage buildings, people are recognizing that, and we are getting more and more that way because we had dialed in what we do.”
