UniCredit CEO says Italy windfall tax on banks should not hit market confidence

MILAN, Sept 7 (Reuters) – Italy’s windfall tax on banks should not undermine shareholders and investors’ confidence, the chief executive of UniCredit (CRDI.MI) said in an interview published on Thursday.

“I believe it is right to wait for the outcome of parliamentary discussions (on the windfall tax)”, CEO Andrea Orcel told Il Messaggero daily.

Orcel also said that the Milan-based lender aims to give back to shareholders at least 15.5 billion euros ($16.61 billion)in 2023, up from 9 billion euros in 2021-2022.
