1. Accountability for the Crime of Aggression Conferences. Registration is now open for twin conferences organised by the Section of International Law and International Relations of the Faculty of Law of the University of Vienna and the Department of International Law of the Faculty of Law, Charles University (Prague) focusing on current legal developments in the enforcement of the crime of aggression. The Vienna ‘Conference on Amendments: Towards one Comprehensive Jurisdictional Regime for all Crimes Within the Jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court’, 6-7 October 2023, will focus on amendments to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. These concern, most prominently, the conditions for the exercise of jurisdiction over the crime of aggression, but also proposals to broaden the subject-matter jurisdiction of the Court and to close gaps in the Statute’s enforcement structure. The Prague Conference ‘Towards Accountability for the Crime of Aggression Committed Against Ukraine’, 10-11 November 2023, will discuss the possible categories of a special tribunal for the prosecution of the crime of aggression against Ukraine and their implications, particularly on the (non)applicability of immunities from foreign criminal jurisdiction and other important aspects. 2. Symposium on International Law and Maldives Navigating Geopolitics, Trade and Sovereignty. The Faculty of Shariah and Law, Villa College, Maldives is hosting the “Symposium on International Law and Maldives: Navigating Geopolitics, Trade and Sovereignty” on 20-21 December 2023 in Malé, Maldives. This symposium aims to provide a platform for scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and researchers to engage in thoughtful discussions regarding the legal dimensions of the Maldives’ engagement with international law. The Symposium will delve into the multifaceted intersections of the Maldives’ legal landscape and international law. The Maldives, known for its unique geographical and cultural characteristics, holds a significant place in the international arena yet remains an unexplored territory in the Asian literature on international law. 3. International Law Weekend 2023. The American Branch of the International Law Association (ABILA) has opened registration for International Law Weekend (#ILW2023) which will be held 19 – 21 October 2023 in NYC. The unifying theme for ILW 2023 is Beyond International Law. The conference will feature 35 panels (many of which offer CLE), a High-Level Opening Plenary, multiple keynote addresses, networking opportunities, the 101st Members Meeting, award ceremonies, and more. The Friday evening UN Mission Reception requires a separate ticket. The early bird discount ends on 10 September and non-members can select the bundle rate for savings. 4. NLIU-International Trade Law Journal Essay Competition on International Trade Law. International Trade Law Journal have launched this new initiative with the help of Economic Laws Practice (ELP) and Manupatra, an online legal research database. Law students currently enrolled in their undergraduate or LLM degrees (or equivalent) are invited to submit their essays and contribute to the discourse on international trade law. The theme is International Trade Law including allied fields such as international investment law, international business law and international competition law etc. The Competition would prefer Essay entries about the Global South and India from an intersectional lens. First prize is an internship opportunity with ELP’s Trade Team, publication of the article in Volume III of the NLIU-International Trade Law Journal, 3 months subscription of Manupatra, 1 Lawskills course of their choice on Manupatra and a cash prize of Rs. 5000/-. The last date for submissions is 5 October 2023 and the results will be declared on 31 October 2023.
5. Call for Papers: CyCon 2024. CyCon, the International Conference on Cyber Conflict, is organised annually by the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE). The 16th iteration of CyCon will take place 28 – 31 May 2024 in Tallinn, Estonia. The theme of CyCon 2024 is “Over the Horizon“ The Call for Papers can be found here.
