Air France flight attendants put out a fire started by a passenger’s mobile phone battery pack by dunking it in a champagne bucket as the cabin filled with smoke.
Wearing smoke hoods, the cabin crew used fire extinguishers to douse the gadget, which was charging while its owner slept in business class on the flight from Paris to Accra, Ghana.
A nearby passenger alerted the crew to the smoke in the latest of many recent incidents of overheating in lithium-ion batteries on mobile devices and other equipment that are worrying the airline industry.
