A new shuttle service connecting the Macau end of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to the Hong Kong International Airport’s restricted area is soon to be launched.
This so-called ‘seamless’ service – Hong Kong International Airport Cross Boundary Shuttle Bus Services – aims to streamline the procedures of check-in for boarding passes and luggage transfer, a company representative told Macao Daily News at a service unveiling event on Thursday.
During the initial phase, the service will
operate from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm, with one trip per hour in each direction
between Hong Kong and Macau.
With a travel time of approximately 45 minutes, the
objective of this service is to reduce travel duration compared to existing
options, enhancing intercity commuting.
The service allows travellers to avoid complex immigration
procedures upon arrival at the Hong Kong’s immigration hall by transporting passengers
to the restricted area of Hong Kong’s airport.
A shuttle bus has a capacity of 36 seats. Promotional
offers will be available during its initial two-month period, during which adult
tickets are set at a discounted rate of HKD250.
The rate will return to the regular fare of HKD280
afterwards. Passengers, however, have the opportunity to reclaim HKD120 as a
departure tax refund at the airport.
The operator of the shuttle is planning to kick
off its second phase before the Christmas season, with extended operating hours
into the early morning.
The long-term vision is to establish a 24-hour
service, providing efficient departure with buses setting off as frequently as
every 15 minutes.
