Michael Cera recently reflected on his time on the television series Arrested Development and spoke about how excited he was to work with David Cross.

While speaking with GQ and looking back on his career, Cera explained that he was a huge Mr. Show fan well before he auditioned for Arrested Development. As such, he became excited when the show began to feature storylines involving the two of them frequently interacting.

“I was really excited when they started writing these side storylines that involved myself and David Cross having one-on-one scenes together,” Cera revealed. “I loved David and I worshipped David, actually, before ever getting to meet him or work with him because I watched Mr. Show growing up … when I heard David was going to potentially be in the pilot, I was incredibly excited.

“And then they started writing scenes with David and I, when he becomes kind of my roommate and we’re sharing a bunk bed at some point in one of the earlier seasons, those were always so much fun to film and really hard for me to keep it together.”

What is Arrested Development about?

“Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) finds himself forced to stay in Orange County and run the family real estate business after his father, George Bluth Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor), is sent to prison for committing white-collar crime,” reads Arrested Development’s synopsis. “He tries to juggle the wants and needs of his spoiled and eccentric family while being a good role model for his teenage son, George Michael (Michael Cera).”
