Hello A-J readers!

This week, we got some details on two upcoming businesses – Neko Chan Cat Café and Summer Moon Coffee.

Neko Chan Cat Café hopes to open in December or January and offer something unique to the Lubbock community. Owner Victoria Matsui, who has Brazilian and Japanese roots, wants to combine her passion for helping cats meet their forever homes.

“We look forward to being the first Cat Cafe in Lubbock, and hope everyone comes out to see it, which in turn supports a local business that’s helping find cats homes,” Matsui said. “I love going into cat cafes in other cities in the US and in other countries and I wanted to be able to bring that experience here to Lubbock.”

Summer Moon has officially started hiring for their first Lubbock location, expected to open next month. Though the company has not responded to requests for comments, the community is pretty excited about this Austin-based business coming to town. One of the menu highlights is Moon Milk, their signature sweet cream that can be added to most drinks.

On the other side of business news, Pepe’s Pizza and Ice Cream, 3407 98th St., announced on Monday that the business will close permanently on Sept. 3.

Next week, keep an eye out for the details on an innovative housing development coming to Ransom Canyon and news on the expansion of H.G. Thrash’s business. The month has also brought a slew of new businesses, so I’m continuing to catalog every business opening, closing and announcement I can for the end of the month column, which will run later this month.

As always, thank you for reading and supporting the A-J.
