Shell LiveWIRE Malaysia 2023: Five more shell winning innovators

Kota Kinabalu: The Shell LiveWIRE Malaysia 2023 State finals were held here Monday with upcycling waste materials, cutting-edge modern anchovy cage and seaweed smart culture equipment, Sabah ethnic handicrafts and coffee barista training-based items winning the judges’ hearts.
Five enterprises were recognised as Sabah winners of Shell LiveWIRE Malaysia 2023: Brutti Besi, Leonarcta, Southeast Asia Treasure, Grace Collection Enterprise and Le Doux Coffee.
They joined the programme together with more than 60 other participants. This is Shell’s ninth year of conducting this programme to help Sabahan entrepreneurs build their businesses.
The competing entrepreneurs underwent a thorough bootcamp, after which 10 finalists were chosen and advanced to the pitching competition.
Five winners were selected after they had been evaluated based on their business pitches, which show their desire to develop their business concepts on the basis of their thorough business plans.
Sabah Shell Petroleum Company Ltd Reliability and Engineering Manager Danny Murshidi said it is encouraging to see local entrepreneurs working hard to expand their enterprises while also empowering the community by generating employment possibilities.

“Shell LiveWIRE enables entrepreneurs to connect with our worldwide LiveWIRE ecosystem, which can aid them further in growing their companies and promoting the socioeconomic development of Sabah and the country.
“I sincerely encourage all aspiring entrepreneurs to use this opportunity to join our Shell LiveWIRE programme,” he said.

Meanwhile, the five winning enterprises each received a start-up fund of RM10,000 from Shell.
On top of that, they will also receive a year of business coaching to develop their business plans into full-fledged businesses and access to the facilities and opportunities made available by Shell.
Furthermore, the winners will also be given the opportunity to connect with the global LiveWIRE ecosystem and share their knowledge with entrepreneurs around the globe, while standing a chance to compete in the annual Shell Global Top Ten Innovators Awards.
The judges of Shell LiveWIRE Malaysia 2023 Sabah finals were Daily Express Deputy General Manager Dexter Yeh, Sabah pitchIN ECF Head Christina Chia and Shell Mobility Territory Manager Mohd Hairul Adhan Ruzzan.
Shell LiveWIRE is the flagship enterprise development programme of Shell. The programme strengthens local economies across the globe by promoting entrepreneurship and developing entrepreneurs.
The programme, which kicked started in Sabah in 2015 and in Sarawak in 2016 aims to inspire young entrepreneurs to innovate and produce real business solutions that meet today’s socio-economic needs.
Starting from 2022, Shell LiveWIRE was extended to include entrepreneurs from Peninsular Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Brutti Besi founders, Lukman Awaluddin and Faznur Khaleq said theirs is an upcycling waste materials company that targets to preserve Borneo’s culture by producing and crafting bespoke furniture by uplifting the local young artisan’s skill and income.
Leonracta founders, Norsita Nordin and Nurshikin Aliuddin on the other hand is an innovation of modern anchovy cage (floated) to ensure longer life span for the system targeting easier maintenance, providing more stock of anchovies to the market.
Southeast Asia Treasure founders Radziah Matarsad and Siti Aishah Syazwani Sairin’s is an innovation of seaweed smart culture tool that can reduce the death of turtles and fishes that attack seaweed farms.
“The smart culture tool is an environmentally friendly system that helps to improve farmers’ income in Semporna and all the areas that culture seaweed including Indonesia, the Philippines, India and other seaweed countries,” they said.
Grace Creation Enterprise founders Rositinah Andahang and Mainah Himbulan’s is a social enterprise that produces Sabah ethnic handicrafts, specifically originating from the Murut ethnic group.
Their company impacts the community surrounding various areas, providing jobs for the women within the area.
Le Doux Coffee founders, Badariah Abdullah Sani and Syed Mohd Nazrie Abdul Hatan provides coffee barista training focusing on youth facing unemployment, school dropouts and the underprivileged, encouraging them to be entrepreneurs by owning a coffee outlet or job opportunities as baristas.
All five enterprises expressed gratitude to Shell for being given the opportunity to be part of the programme and to be awarded state winners of the Shell LiveWIRE Malaysia 2023.
