Isuzu has launched its cheapest Mu-X model in South Africa, with a starting price of R708,000 – making it the most affordable option in the Mu-X lineup.

The new entry-level Mu-X is R92,000 less than the previous entry-level model and will feature a 1.9-litre engine, which was previously reserved for the D-Max bakkies only.

Before, the flagship SUV was only available as a 3.0-litre model, with variants priced between R800,000 to R960,600.

Features

As standard, prospective buyers can expect:

  • Automatic bi-LED lights;
  • Rain-sensing wipers;
  • A multifunction steering wheel;
  • Partial leather upholstery;
  • Cruise control and manual airconditioning with rear-cabin vents;
  • Electric front seats with four-way adjustment for the passenger and eight-way for the driver; and
  • A 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connected to six speakers.

The SUV also includes the latest standard tech, such as front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, hill-start and descent assist, trailer sway control, ABS with brake assist, and seven airbags.

The Isuzu Mu-X 1.9TD is equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels and comes with a full-size spare wheel, providing a ground clearance of 235mm.

Performance

The latest Mu-X model for entry-level customers offers a maximum power output of 110kW and 350Nm and is limited to 4×2 while paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The smaller engine also means that the SUV has a combined fuel consumption of 7.0l/100km, as well as a maximum towing capacity of 2,100kg.

When compared to its related models, the 1.9-litre version produces 30kW and 100Nm less power. This results in a 0.6l/100km improvement in fuel efficiency, but lowers its towing capacity by 1,400kg.

Price

The South African pricing and revised model line-up for the Isuzu Mu-X is as follows:

Each purchase carries a 5-year/120,000km warranty, a 5-year/90,000km service plan, and 5-year/120,000km roadside assistance.
