KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has reportedly said that Selangor needs a pro-business state government that will not “U-turn” on its decisions to drive up its economic growth.

In an interview with Malay daily Sinar Harian, Azmin, who is also a former Selangor menteri besar said that the state has to elevate its economic status and fulfil its potential by empowering women and youth to be more involved in the labour market.

“It is true, Selangor has good infrastructure, but a leadership that does not ‘flip flop’ [in making decisions] and the ‘pro-business and ‘business friendly’ policy can help the state drive greater growth.

“I want to see Selangor not at the same level but towards the Selangor Super Smart State, empowering women to also play an important role as the core of the state’s development while young people get quality jobs,” he was quoted as saying.

Azmin also justified his deficit budget that was announced during his years as Selangor menteri besar and said that it was necessary to maintain economic activities amid a crisis.

“It needs to be done to stimulate economic activities in the field so that the people can benefit. Spending in excess of income is allowed or permitted during times of crisis,” he added.

Touted to be the PN candidate for Selangor menteri besar, Azmin will go against Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) candidate Juwairiya Zulkifli in Hulu Kelang for the state election.

Selangor has 56 state seats and PN is contesting all of them.

Polling day is on August 12 while early voting is on August 8.
