UK specialty coffee roaster Origin Coffee has been listed on the 2023 FEBE Growth 100, which celebrates the fastest growing private companies in the UK.

To make the FEBE (For Entrepreneurs, by Entrepreneurs) list, businesses must generate sales of between £3m ($3.8m) and £200m ($254m) annually, have been trading for at least three years and turned an operating profit in the last financial year.

Porthleven-based Origin sources and roasts specialty-grade coffee which it sells wholesale, direct-to-consumer and a six-strong café network.

Recognised for its significant sales, revenue and profit ‘against a backdrop of unprecedented economic challenges’, Origin Coffee is the only coffee roastery to make the list, and just one of two coffee businesses, alongside Northern Ireland-based coffee chain Bob & Berts.

“From a sales perspective, the last 12 months at Origin have been incredible. No small feat, considering the challenges we’re all facing on a global scale. The knock-on effects of a global pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and numerous other issues affecting producer partners in their own countries has made the last year one of the toughest to navigate since starting Origin. I am incredibly proud of the way that every single person at Origin has adapted to the challenges we face, and I look forward to continuing to grow,” said Tom Sobey, Founder, Origin Coffee.

The FEBE Growth 100 rated businesses by compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in sales over the last three financial years.

Founded in 2004, Origin Coffee attained B Corp certification in July 2020.

In March 2023, Origin Coffee announced a new three-year deal to become the exclusive coffee supplier to The Hoxton’s boutique hotels in Europe. The agreement also includes the supply of all coffee equipment, and places Origin Coffee as The Hoxton’s coffee supplier of choice for all new projects.
