Ericsson’s ability to drive Sweden’s digitalization will be in focus in Visby, Gotland, from June 27-July 1 when the nation’s political parties gather for the annual Almedalsveckan festival.

The highly regarded event is a week-long forum of discussion, debate and information sessions where political parties, the business community, academia and others gather to discuss issues across the entire range of government responsibilities. About 45,000 visitors and 2,000 participants usually attend the festival, which is famous for its open, relaxed and friendly environment.

Ericsson is among the regular Almedalsveckan participants from the Swedish business community. The company’s event presence this year will focus on digitalization as Sweden – along with other countries worldwide – develops and implements digitalization strategies.

Ericsson will have a simple message for the political community and other decision makers: succeeding early in digitalization is key to increasing a country’s regional and global industry competitiveness.

Company experts, including CTO Erik Ekudden, will highlight why the digitalization of industry is one of the most critical future issues facing Sweden’s decision-makers. They will outline what a digitalized business involves, the job creation opportunities, the environmental benefits and how it can increase companies’ innovation and global competitiveness.

Erik Ekudden says: ‘Sweden has a fantastic starting point for leading the digital development with its innovation abilities and many global companies at the absolute forefront of their respective industries, but it requires us to be proactive and ensure that we lead the development. Many countries, such as the USA, Canada, Japan, China and Germany are making major investments in digitalization and Sweden needs to do the same. This topic will be discussed at our different activities during the days in Visby.’

Ekudden also discussed digitalization with Sweden’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Business and Industry, Ebba Busch, during a ministerial visit to Ericsson HQ in Kista in April. At the time the Deputy Prime Minister said the government was committed to business innovation as a vital part of the country’s digitalization leadership ambitions.

Earlier this month company CEO Borje Ekholm also highlighted Ericsson’s digitalization role when he welcomed the announcement, made in the Swedish city of Lulea, of deepening EU-US cooperation on emerging and future technologies.

Ericsson President and CEO, Borje Ekholm, has welcomed a new agreement between the European Union and the United States of America to deepen cooperation on emerging and future technologies, saying the company is ready to take a leading role in the initiative.

Ericsson Seminars:

Ericsson will host three digitalization-themed seminars covering the transport industry, the energy sector and the manufacturing industry.

Connected and Autonomous Vehicles – How Do We Get There?

The Digitalization of the Energy Sector

Erik Ekudden will be the main speaker during these seminars, together with politicians, industry leaders and others. You can see the Ericsson program here (in Swedish).

In addition, Ericsson will host two digitalization-related roundtable discussions during Almedalsveckan, while company speakers will also be guest participants in seminars and discussions hosted by other companies and organizations.
