THE Oyster & Fish House in Lyme Regis, owned by renowned chef and restaurateur Mark Hix MBE, has been named Best Restaurant in the Muddy Stilettos Local Business Awards 2023.

Across the country 77,000 businesses were nominated in the first round of voting and a total of 800,000 votes were cast.

The awards are broken down in to 28 counties in the UK with The Oyster & Fish House nominated in and winning the Best Restaurant category in the Dorset, Somerset and Bristol region.

After a challenging year, which saw Mr Hix forced to remove his temporary outdoor deck area after a dispute with Lyme Regis Town Council, reducing his restaurant covers by half in the summer months, he confirms that the award is a welcome boost for himself and the team.

In a newsletter to customers and supporters, Mr Hix said: “We literally couldn’t have done it without your support, so from myself and all of the team here front and back of house, and behind the scenes, sincere thanks to every single one of you that took time to vote.

“It’s been one hell of a journey this year for all of us, so this really is the best tonic for us all as we head into the busy summer.

“Supporting local businesses in this current climate is more important than ever, and Muddy Stilettos does just that. It’s a brilliant lifestyle platform with over 1.2 million monthly readers. It’s also great to see fellow Lyme Regis businesses in the winners list too!”

The other Lyme Regis business Mr Hix referred to was Lyme Regis Stays, a holiday home rental in Sherborne Lane, which won Best Boutique Star in Dorset, Somerset and Bristol.

Owners Mike and Anna wrote on Facebook: “Thank you to everyone who voted for us. We are incredibly grateful and super super chuffed! Just taking it all in right now and can’t stop smiling.”

Each regional winner will also be put forward for the National Muddy Awards to find the ‘best of the best’ across all 28 Muddy counties. The national winners will be announced later this month.
