The Nigerian- German Chamber of Commerce (NGCC) has stressed the need to promote trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Nigerian manufacturers and German production technology firms through the EMO 2023 Technology Fair, to offer opportunities to acquire technology solutions that would address manufacturing challenges in the country.
The NGCC revealed this at a stakeholders’ conference in Lagos, saying technology, such as automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, can help Nigerian manufacturers overcome challenges and increase productivity, according to industry.
NGCC is a non-profit membership organisation made up of German and Nigerian-owned business enterprises. The NGCC plays a crucial role in fostering bilateral business relationships between the two countries.
Speaking at the conference, the Director-General of NGCC, Marilyn Rapu, said the fair, one of the world’s leading trade fairs for production technology taking place from September 18 to 23, would showcase the latest technological, strategic, and organisational trends in international production.
With the theme: “Innovate Manufacturing,” the NGCC boss affirmed that there would be exhibitors from different countries manufacturing production technology value chains, all presenting a complete overview of the latest technology offerings.
She said: “It’s a production technology show. Small starts-up can join. The Nigerian manufacturing sector needs to upgrade in operations with the level of knowledge surge in the world.
“Germany over the years does support Nigeria in different ways especially, technologically. Participants would learn the latest trends, understand the challenges, network, and find solutions to problems they are facing locally. “
According to Rapu, a country without strong manufacturing capacity for export is a big problem, stressing that manufacturing is the future for Nigeria.
Also speaking at the programme, the Project Manager (Nigeria) of the Skilled Workers For Africa- VDMA- initiative, Kayode Jegede, added that the fair involves every segment in the entire manufacturing ecosystem, hence it’s an avenue for indigenous manufacturers to learn, unlearn and relearn to boost efficiency and effectiveness in their respective sectors.
“It’s not only about the machines or hardware. It involves the knowledge, skills, and processes, in the entire ecosystem of manufacturing. Germany is reputed for its best manufacturing machines and facilities. It’s a learning fair, and you know ideas rule the world. So, manufacturers in different sectors in Nigeria are encouraged to key into this opportunity to increase sector efficiency in the country.
