Debbie Bongiovanni hand-makes children’s clothes and has seen her business gather pace after launching her own shop.
She opened a store at Stonham Barns Park, near Debenham, after demand for her range grew.
The mother-of-one now has a 4000-plus following on Facebook for her FuturePresentsNow clothes which feature themes from fairies and mermaids to dinosaurs, cars and unicorns.
The 41-year-old was born on the Channel Islands and met husband Paolo while on holiday in Cyprus aged 16. They later tied the knot and have one daughter, Abi.
She learnt the art of clothes-making eight years ago from her mother-in-law – who was a seamstress – and caught the sewing bug. She later decided to turn her hobby into a business.
“It was something to do when daughter Abi was young. She was such a gift of a baby,” she explained.
“She let me do something creative and rewarding at the same time as being a mummy.
“I had not made anything before I looked at a sewing machine over eight years ago.”
Debbie comes from a creative family – her own mum ran a small baking business when she was young.
“I watched her create beautiful cakes. They were colourful and playful.
“I love to select beautiful fabrics for friends, family and my growing customer following and make something they will never throw away so I think it’s highly sustainable.”
She likes to create clothes which reflect children’s passions.
“Customers can choose the theme of the fabric and the style – it’s all about having some items of clothes that make your children happy. If they are proud and happy so are you, she said.
She makes easy to wear clothes using soft fabric. Designs range from beany hats to dresses, sweatshirts and leggings.
She has also diversified into producing hand-crafted mugs, keychains, slate images, Baby Milestone Discs, T-shirts and ladies’ fashion.
“I am not business minded by nature but as the business has grown so have I,” she said.
“I do need to take it to the next stage now. It is something I feel will always grow as people start families and watch their children grow.
“I have customers who order clothes to match their children together and some parents like outfits that match with their children. It’s so endearing how much people love to spoil their young children.”
