Scandinavian airline SAS is to open reservations later this week for its first commercial electric flights, which are planned to depart in 2028.

Seats on three inaugural electric flights in Sweden, Norway and Denmark will go on sale on Friday (2 June). Tickets will be priced at 1946 krona or krone in each of the three countries’ currencies (€160-€260) to mark the date of SAS’s original founding. But the fare will only have to be paid 30 days before departure with no fees for the reservation.

SAS said the flights will take place at some point during 2028 in a 30-seat electric aircraft being developed to help the airline reach its goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.

Anko van der Werff, president and CEO of SAS, said: “Since its inception in 1946, SAS has been one of the pioneers in the airline industry, being for instance the first commercial airline operator to fly over the North Pole to significantly shorten flight time between continents.

“The fact that we can now invite our passengers to the next major milestone in the future of aviation is a natural continuation of that pioneering spirit and a significant step on our journey towards more sustainable aviation.”
