OLKARIA, Kenya, May 6 – Germany will exploit the potentiality in Kenya’s energy sector, Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said.
While on a visit to Olkaria Geothermal Station in Naivasha Chancellor Scholz said his country will invest in the country geothermal sector.
He said he was impressed by Kenya’s commitment in ensuring the world attains clean energy goals.
“Kenya and Germany have entered into climate and development partnership in supporting Kenya achieve 100 percent renewable energy supply and also support Kenya adaption to climate changes,’” he said
Scholz said Germany will aid in production of green hydrogen and fertilizer production.
Energy CS Davis Chirchir said President William Ruto is committed in ensuring Kenya achieve clean energy.
He said the climate change has affected the country greatly.
“We have promised to achieve 100 percent green energy by 2030,”said Chirchir.
Chirchir said hydro power has been insufficient with Kenya spending alot in buying energy from Ethiopia.
The CS said the country welcomes Germany companies in development of clean energy.
He said Kenya is a top destination for green energy and jobs creations.
Present was CS mining and blue economy and maritime affairs Salim Mvurya and Energy PS Alex Wachira.
CS Chirchir said Kenya has huge potential for for development of Geothermal energy yet to be tapped.
Following President Ruto recent to Germany, the two countries have agreed to partner in many areas of mutual interest.
