£750m rail hub plan ‘falls short’, according to Council | TheBusinessDesk.com

Council leaders have expressed reservations about the proposed £750m rail hub planned for  Leicestershire.

They said that the Hinckley National Rail Freight Interchange (HNRFI) project, submitted by Tritax Symmetry, “falls short” in various aspects.

Additionally, council members allege that the benefits of the scheme have been “exaggerated.”

The HNRFI, developed by Tritax Symmetry, is a major rail hub set to be located east of Hinckley, adjacent to Burbage Common.

This development includes nine warehouses, a rail terminal capable of handling up to 16 daily train arrivals, a new M69 motorway Junction 2 access point, and a new truck parking facility.

Still, this project has been a subject of debate, with councillors pointing out a lack of information about how it might impact residents.

A recent report from Leicestershire County Council clearly states that they don’t support the project as it stands, citing numerous issues in the proposal.

Next week’s county hall meeting will address the concerns at HNFRI.

The primary worry is the lack of information, as the council asserts there is no comprehensive evaluation of how the rail hub will affect the busy M1 Junction 21 and Junction 3 of the M69.

Tritax Symmetry also claimed the rail hub would create “thousands of jobs” but council officers have questioned this.
