KOTA MARUDU: More than 700 people from the community within the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) have engaged in and benefited from the socioeconomic programmes organised by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) since 2020 to date.
The programme, which aims to improve the socioeconomic standing of the community, benefited an additional 60 participants here.
The programme, which ran from Oct 30 to Nov 3, included Kolej Teknologi Yayasan Sabah as the training provider in three courses – culinary, sewing and mobile phone repair.
State Science, Technology and Innovation Assistant Minister Datuk Harun Durabi officiated at its closing ceremony.
According to Esscom Commander Datuk Victor Sanjos, participants were given technical and basic business skills with the goal of improving the participants’ and their families’ economic situation.
He said the 60 participants in Kota Marudu are from the B40 category, those who have passed the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, single mothers and those without a fixed income, aged 18 to 60.

“We believe that the programme will indirectly contribute to national security by creating a more stable and prosperous environment, preventing people from becoming involved in crime.
“Apart from the training courses, a Pertubuhan Prihatin Komuniti Grant (GPPK) worth RM10,000 was also presented to 15 associations in Kota Marudu who are registered with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) as a touch point to foster the value of volunteerism in empowering community safety,” he said.
