Bloomberg’s
estimated U.S.-booked air travel spend increased in 2022 to $35.4 million. The
financial services firm is set to see a big jump in travel in 2023. About 40
percent of its air travel is domestic.

The
financial services firm expects its air spending to surpass pre-pandemic levels
later in 2023. 

All of
Bloomberg’s air travel is managed by one TMC globally. Meanwhile 87 percent of
airline tickets are booked through the preferred online booking tool.  

Bloomberg
has progressed toward its validated near-term science-based targets for 2030
including a 36 percent reduction in Scope 3 emissions—above a 30 percent target—from
a 2018 baseline.  

The company
continues to build sustainable business travel practices including integrating
sustainability recommendations into its online booking tool, encouraging rail
travel when feasible and flagging which flights are more efficient as well as
highlighting hotels that meet sustainability criteria. 

Bloomberg introduced in 2022an accessibility desk for travelers with unique needs. It is open to all travelers who declare a need for support; about 400 travelers take advantage of that support.

In 2022,
business travel represented 38.4 percent of total emissions. Its 2022 travel
activity, measured by miles traveled, was 29 percent lower than in 2019, its
last full pre-pandemic year.
