  • “After the Independence, what was taught in schools covered very less people (freedom fighters). The ‘Krish, Trish and Baltiboy – Bharat Hain Hum’ animation series will help in educating the viewers, which wasn’t done in the past.
  • During the Amrit Kaal, we have made several efforts to inform our students about the country’s history and unsung heroes. Lakhs of programmes have been organised across the country. We also got the opportunity to tell the country about several freedom fighters through Swaraj TV serial.
  • Efforts have been made to ensure that language doesn’t become a barrier and hence, this (animation series) is being made in 12 Indian languages so that not just the country, but the entire world gets to know about our unsung heroes like Rani Abbakka.

Russia denied UN human rights seat

Russia was defeated in its bid to regain a seat in the U.N.’s premiere human rights body by a significant majority in Tuesday’s election in the General Assembly, which voted last year to suspend Moscow after its invasion of Ukraine.

Russia was competing against Albania and Bulgaria for two seats on the Geneva-based Human Rights Council representing the East European regional group.

In the secret ballot vote, Bulgaria got 160 votes, Albania received 123 votes and Russia just 83 votes.

Russia has claimed that it has support from a silent majority, and even though 83 votes came from less than half the 193 U.N. member nations, there is certain to be a concern, especially by Ukraine and its Western allies, that Moscow’s support was that high.

Thousands of Afghans out in cold after deadly quakes

Thousands of Afghans who survived a powerful earthquake that killed more than 2,000 people were bracing for a winter of homelessness on Tuesday, as rescuers made last-ditch efforts to find survivors. Volunteers have worked with spades and pickaxes in Herat province since Saturday’s deadly magnitude 6.3 quake — followed by powerful aftershocks — while others dug graves instead. The United Nations said more than 12,000 people, from some 1,700 families, are estimated to have been affected.
