With Thanksgiving over, what better way to stuff your face after the leftovers are gone than with a hearty helping of restaurant and business news from the past month!

There was plenty of news coming out throughout November and during the holiday. Fortunately, most of the stories revolve around new businesses opening in Knoxville instead of restaurants closing. This includes a Chattanooga favorite opening here, a new taproom from a local brewery and an update on a popular downtown Knoxville deli’s kitchen.

Turkey Creek gets a new poké restaurant

Island Fin Poké Co. recently opened in Turkey Creek.

Located at 11615 Parkside Drive, this is the 27th location for the franchise and the third in the state. The poké restaurant opened Nov. 6.

Customers can either build their own bowl or pick from signature dishes including chicken, ahi tuna and salmon bowls. The restaurant is open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.

Aretha Frankensteins opens South Knoxville location

Aretha Frankensteins opened Nov. 20 at 3318 Chapman Highway. The restaurant brings the iconic pancakes and breakfast foods from Chattanooga to Knoxville.

Knox News reporter Daniel Dassow was among the first in Knoxville to get a taste of what Aretha Frankensteins had cooking, from pancakes to giant waffles.

The restaurant is open 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Potchke closes for kitchen renovations, but will move temporarily

Potchke is closed until Dec. 4 for kitchen renovations. However, the popular deli will operate out of Tern Club at 135 S. Gay St. through Dec. 3 in a special collaboration called Potchke Club.

Open 9 a.m.-2 p.m. each day, the pop-up will feature a special collaborative menu including Potchke-inspired tropical cocktails.

EAST by Orange Hat opens in Parkridge, Baker Boy Pizza soft launches

The Hardin Valley brewery Orange Hat Brewing Co. has opened a new taproom, this time heading east.

EAST by Orange Hat serves the Parkridge neighborhood at 701 N. Cherry St. No brewing is done at the taproom, but pretty much all of the beer Orange Hat brews will be on tap.

“The biggest thing for us is just come as you are,” Cofounder Rodney Ramin said. “We are extremely open to all walks of life and every person that comes in here, we’re grateful for. We don’t consider ourselves a college bar. We don’t consider ourselves a sports bar. We are whatever you want it to be.”

The taproom is open 11 a.m.-11 p.m. daily.

Next door, Baker Boy Pizza Company has soft opened with dine-in and pick-up orders. It’s open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers is open on Bearden Hill

Replacing Tandur Indian Kitchen at 6502 Kingston Pike, Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers has opened on Bearden Hill.

This is the fifth Freddy’s location in the area, but this one is conveniently located near the new Andy’s Frozen Custard. Now Bearden Hill has become a frozen custard destination; the biggest difference is that Freddy’s has food too.

Freddy’s is open 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10:30 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Marble City Market adds a fresh new vendor

Madres Fresh Cantina is the newest addition to Marble City Market food hall at 333 W. Depot Ave. It opened Nov. 15.

The vendor serves Mexican food including quesadillas, burritos and tacos. It’s open the same time as the food hall, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

PGA TOUR Superstore and Burlington open in Farragut

Two more Turkey Creek businesses have opened.

PGA TOUR Superstore is the newest addition with a grand opening held Nov. 20. It’s located at 11491 Parkside Drive where the Best Buy used to be. The store sells golfing equipment, clubs, shoes, apparel and technology, which will be perfect for the golf lovers in Knoxville.

Burlington opened Nov. 17 at 11449 Parkside Drive, where Off Broadway Shoes was located. This was a relocation of the North Seven Oaks Drive store.

The Wayback opens in Pigeon Forge

Taking a step into the past, The Wayback is a ’70s-inspired hotel located in Pigeon Forge at 2760 Parkway.

It opened Nov. 2 and includes 134 rooms and a hotel bar, as well as an Airstream bar and a taco truck by the pool. The pool is only available to guests over 16 during the day and is 18-and-up after 5 p.m.

Brother Wolf becomes Miracle in the Old City

The holidays are back with Miracle in the Old City.

Brother Wolf at 108 W. Jackson Ave. has transformed once again into a seasonal Christmas pop-up bar through December.

Go grab a Snowball Old Fashioned and enjoy the ho-ho-holidays!

Dean’s Restaurant and Bakery is expanding in Oak Ridge

Over in Oak Ridge, Dean’s Restaurant and Bakery is expanding at 239 Jackson Square.

The restaurant acquired The Ferrel Shop next door and will be used for private events, breakfast on the weekends, pop-up dinners and play nights, according to a Facebook post announcing the new space.

“Maybe a steakhouse one night a seafood house the next. Whatever we feel like that month,” the post reads. “It’s exciting around here.”

Fai Thai Kitchen reopens in Bearden

Fai Thai Kitchen relocated to 4451 Kingston Pike in Bearden in the Western Plaza Shopping Center.

The restaurant is open 11 a.m.-3 p.m. then again 5-9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Fai Thai is closed on Monday.

Burger Boys owner won’t be gone for too long

Burger Boys fans have an opportunity to buy the modular restaurant for only $75,000. The drive-thru only restaurant building would need to be moved, but anyone could become the new owner of Burger Boys.

Owner Andre Bryant announced in the same post that this sale will fund his next venture — another modular restaurant twice the size. He wrote that it will be located next to the Dunkin’ Donuts along Chapman Highway.

“I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for your continuous support. It’s your patronage that has made the Burger Boys a beloved establishment in Knoxville,” the post read.

Popcorn Sutton’s famous ‘likker’ makes a return

Famed moonshiner Popcorn Sutton’s memory and concoctions lives on with new moonshine distilled by Ole Smoky Moonshine.

With Pam Sutton’s blessing, Popcorn products are returning to the market – legally, this time – through a partnership with Joe Baker, the founder of East Tennessee’s own Ole Smoky Moonshine.

Two beverages will hit shelves bearing Popcorn Sutton’s name and image: a “master blend” bourbon whiskey and his likker, a sugar- and corn-based product.
